Education

Every year we develop a new educative programme for students, hobbyists and aspiring photographers in the North. The educative programme is based on the exposition and the annual theme. This year the theme is ‘Visual Storytelling’.

To include students in the press photography we offer an educational package and guided tours for schools. The education package contributes to the preparation of critical and reflective citizenship that is in line with the educational function of the schools. The assignments combine in an interactive way artistical, social and personal themes. Our learning packages are closely linked to different teaching methods and can be used for courses such as Social Studies, History, Geography and Dutch.

In addition to guided tours and the reading package, there are also videos about (press) photography online at WPFG Academy and the North Photographers series.

High school

  • A varied range of lessons based on photos of World Press Photo 17
  • Cross-sectional lessons
  • Connection to a large number of core goals
  • Possible participation in the school competition
  • Optional classical tour of the exhibition

The lesson package we offer is cross-sectional and consists of a series of assignments for Dutch, history, visual arts, social science, music and philosophy of life. The reading package is useful for the VMBO, HAVO and VWO. The assignments are usually the same but the assignments are arranged so that students can work on their own level. As a teacher you can decide how much time you can spend. All components can be used separately and combined. You can teach all classes or choose the lessons that you find most interesting. In the most comprehensive version, using the entire package, you can see the package as a project week dedicated to journalism, cartoons and press photography. During four days there are assignments for the students. The assignments will range from half an hour to two hours a day. Of course, it can also be spread over several weeks. The students learn to look at pictures, step in the role of a journalist and learn a few tricks from the press photographer's field. You can also choose to only visit the exhibition. The package will be offered digitally and costs € 2 per student, including a visit to the exhibition and a tour of one of our education staff. The tour is adapted to PO and VO students. Some pictures of the exhibition are not suitable for youthful viewers. When visiting the exhibition, this is taken into account by a special route that avoids confrontational photos.

Primary school

  • Extensive reading package based on the pictures of World Press Photo 17
  • Cross-sectional lessons
  • Connection to a large number of core goals
  • Possible participation in the school competition
  • Optional classical tour of the exhibition

The learning package we offer is cross-sectional and encompasses a large number of core goals in primary education. The lesson package is intended to introduce students to World Press and to journalism and press photography. Of course, it is very nice to combine this reading package with a visit to the exhibition, but it is still an interesting and useful reading package for schools that are not feasible. A visit to the exhibition is therefore not a must. As a teacher you can decide how much time you spend. All components can be used separately and combined. You can teach all classes or choose the lessons that you find most interesting. In the most comprehensive version, using the entire package, you can see the package as a project week dedicated to journalism, cartoons and press photography. Of course, it can also be spread over several weeks. The students learn to look at pictures, step in the role of a journalist and learn a few tricks from the press photographer's field. You can also choose to visit the exhibition only. The package will be offered digitally and costs € 2 per student, including a visit to the exhibition and a tour of one of our education staff. he tour is adapted to PO and VO students.
